• “without winter’s help i’m not sure i would have released my album. when i started the project the mixes were weak, the album lacked nuance, and there was room for structural improvements. it was more a collection of demos then an album.

  the first thing i noticed was how much better winter’s mixes sounded. he cleared out the mud so that the important parts of each song came through.

  many of my songs had a demo feel to them. for example, verse one sounded very similar to verse two. winter helped add little nuances to the music that kept it interesting. sometimes this meant tracking a guitar or a tambourine other times we added samples or a virtual instrument. but the end aim was always the same; improve the material.

  when a song was long, or repetitive or one section didn’t flow easily to another he’d suggest a change in structure. many songs ended up improved due to his more objective ear.

  winter ended up functioning as a mixing engineer, producer, and maybe A&R man on my album. i’m happy to say that the album benefited greatly from all aspects. all the while i never felt pushed or that my ideas were being diluted. in fact i think winter helped me make my ideas that much stronger. imho that’s what a good mixer, producer should do.” May 31, 2008 — Chris Porro,
